When should I take this class?
You are welcome to take this class any time that is convenient for you. Private classes are scheduled for your convenience because I understand crazy life schedules. If you are deciding on a group class..... Count back 3 months from your due date and ask yourself if this is enough learning time and is a class available around that time. (I schedule classes every other month) If not, consider the 6-month option and register for the class that is earlier. The class stretches 6 weeks so you don't want to end too close to your due date. I suggest you leave about 3 weeks to process the information and plan for the big day.

Evidence Based Birth® Childbirth Class

When I had my first baby, I was terrified of the pain I expected to experience. So, I began to research what it is like to have a baby and what to expect in the hospital. I learned that many women did not have terrible birth experiences, if they were properly prepared and provided with the right kind of care. But I was shocked to learn that many women were subject to medical treatment that was not backed by evidence and that it was often done without their consent.

At that time, almost all women were being given episiotomies (a cut to the vaginal opening). I made it clear to my doctor that I did not want that and I was fortunate enough to have a doctor who listened to me. As I spoke to other new mothers about their experiences, I learned that I was in the minority.

Too often I meet women who cast their eyes down with a look of defeat and sorrow when they think about their birth experiences. It doesn’t have to be this way! Arm yourselves with the knowledge and skills you need to have an empowered birth.

I became an Evidence Based Birth® Instructor to learn how to skillfully mentor you and your partner in evidence based care, comfort measures and advocacy so that you can embrace birth with confidence and courage. Begin parenthood from a place of strength!

Listen to what some of the first students of the Evidence Based Birth® Childbirth Class have had to say:

“This class is a total gamechanger for us. I’d heard negative stories…I was scared and very on edge. Then once we started taking the class, and when we learned about interventions that I was apprehensive about… It brought us together in that [my partner] understood birth more, and I understood it more. And as soon as I went into labor, we were on. We were a team.”

“I really appreciated how informative it was. I knew a lot about the biology of birth and babies, but what we learned was just very impressive. It was a really good experience—fairly chill, fairly laid-back, and not nearly as stressful and awkward as I thought it might be. All the information—I never would’ve thought there was that much information out there!”
